SAW Technology

Breakthrough Sensing Technology
Enabling New Measurements

Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) technology enables to conceive innovative sensing solutions to overcome the limitations of traditional measuring systems.
Where classic sensors depend on power sources and wires to operate, SENSeOR’s SAW sensors are entirely passive and perform precision measurements (temperature, pressure, stress etc.) wirelessly.

A bit of History

Acoustic wave technology relies on piezoelectricity, discovered by Pierre and Jacques Curie in 1880 during their analysis of materials like Quartz.

Surface acoustic wave propagation mode and properties were first described by Lord Rayleigh in 1885

Industrial and commercial applications of SAW technology were first made around the 1950’s.

The most common use of SAW technology today is for mobile phone filters. SAW-based sensing devices have been in development for years and now perform optimally for a wide range of challenging, enhanced measurement and monitoring applications (industrial, chemical, medical).

SAW Technology brings Innovation in Measurement Industry

Wireless operation of the SAW sensors without any energy source (no battery, no energy harvesting)

Operate on rotating parts and in motion equipment,
In places hard or impossible to reach, embedded into materials
Easy installation and modular mountings, compatible with retrofit

Very robust, stable, maintenance-free sensors

Operate at very high and low temperatures, in harsh environments
Under high electro-magnetic fields, high currents and voltages
Infinite autonomy

Enabling technology

for 24/7 online monitoring at the heart of the equipment, on critical points not reachable with other technologies

High-performance, modular systems

Large measurement ranges with high sensitivity
Multiple measurements with a single SAW sensor (i.e. temperature and pressure)
Multiple points/channels with one system
Seamless interfacing with existing networks
